A small change for a new season

The familiar rituals that make a home feel ready for the days ahead.

Fresh produce in varied seasonal colours
Fresh produce in varied seasonal colours.

A change of season does not always announce itself dramatically. Sometimes it arrives as a different light through the kitchen window or the first evening you reach for a blanket.

There can be pleasure in noticing and responding with something small. A favourite soup returns to the table. A lamp moves closer to the sofa. The coat by the door changes.

Use what is already yours

Look for the things you enjoy bringing back into use. A heavier mug, a familiar recipe, the scarf you had forgotten in a drawer. A seasonal ritual does not need a shopping list.

You might put a few branches in a vase or move your reading chair towards the light. The change can be almost invisible to anyone else.

Let the season arrive at its own pace

Some days will feel like the month just gone; others will hint at the one ahead. Your home does not need to change all at once.

Notice what sounds inviting today and begin there. A small welcome is still a welcome.
