Set the table for yourself
You do not have to wait for company to use the plate you like.

The good plates have a way of waiting for an occasion while everyday meals happen beside the laptop. It is understandable: a busy day asks for convenience, and eating alone rarely comes with a reason to set the table.
But your own dinner is an occasion of a kind. You can move a few things aside, choose a plate and sit somewhere that feels pleasant.
Borrow a little hospitality
Think about the small things you do when someone visits. A glass of water within reach. A place to sit. Perhaps some music or an open window. You can offer yourself the same ordinary welcome.
Nothing needs to match. The food can be simple. This is not a lesson in table styling.
Make it yours
Perhaps you enjoy a book with dinner, or the sound of the radio. Perhaps you would rather have quiet. There is room for your preferences.
When the meal is over, the plate goes back in the cupboard. It can come out again tomorrow.
